Sayer date is one of the most popular Iranian dates. Sayer date is classified among the semi-dry types of dates. It’s harvested in mid-September and is usually available throughout the year.
One of the reasons for the popularity of the Sayer date is its high sugar (75%) and low cellulose content. This type of date is raised in three sizes including small, average, and large. It has an oval and long appearance. Its color is brown and sometimes blackish-brown or reddish-brown. The adhesion of the seed to the Sayer date is very low.
Applications
In addition to direct consumption, the Sayer date can be used as an ingredient in food industries such as in producing cakes, biscuits, sweets, and numerous other foods. Due to its high sugar content, diabetic patients have to be careful when consuming this type.
Storage
Zahedi date has low moisture, high shelf-life, simple storage without requiring cold storage facilities, and economic and convenient transportation without need for refrigerator containers.
